Blabemo is a platform that facilitates open communication and discussion among employees regarding progress in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) within their working environment.

About BlabEmo

BlabEmo was created and owned by two professionals (a software engineer and a Business Development expert) from minority backgrounds, who have lived and experienced the advantages of working in a diverse community. Unfortunately, these experiences have also included dealing with the struggles of working in non-inclusive working environments.

BlabEmo is coined from two words “Blab” which is self-explanatory, “reveal secrets by indiscreet talk” and “Emo” which is a group of people associated with the subculture and musical style ‘Emo’, a form of Rock music.

Emo music genre keeps impacting generations through accurate and very vivid storytelling of personal and emotional experiences. Just like Emo, we have groups of under-represented employees that are often misunderstood, stereotyped, and often discriminated against.

BlabEmo offers an opportunity for employees to use their experiences and opinions to continue to strive for a more inclusive and equitable working environment.

Hence our catch phrase “BlabEmo – investing your opinions”

Mission

Most employers have made conscious efforts to ensure that their workplace policies on diversity, equity and inclusion reflect an unbiased work culture. These decisions hopefully will contribute to an increase in minority inclusion across most sectors of employment.

However, at BlabEmo we are keen to ask the following questions:

  • How do the employees view the impact of these policies?
  • Will there be parity within these employments?
  • Do all employees get the same treatment and progression opportunities?

“Policy does not always dictate culture”.

Strategy

BlabEmo is a platform that encourages further discussions on issues of inequality, prejudice, or discrimination in the workplace.

We aim to achieve this by ensuring employees can anonymously express their opinions on any forms of prejudice, discrimination, or marginalisation that they have experienced in the workplace, rate these experiences, and stir up conversations for change.

Interactions between employees from various backgrounds, both the majority and all under-represented groups, will create a platform that will be inclusive, and encourage conversations that inform, educate and transform.
